The LFIM® mask protects first responders, emergency staff and employees against the toxic gases, smoke and shrapnel released during a thermal runaway. Ready to use. Maintenance-free. 5-year shelf life.
A Li-ion fire is not a normal fire but an irreversible process: thermal escalation happens within seconds — with extremely toxic gases, no warning and no way to extinguish it the way an emergency-response team is trained to.
Damage, overheating, overloading or age causes an internal short circuit.
The Li-ion cell explodes from internal pressure build-up. That explosion tears metal parts loose from the cell.
Flames up to 1000°C. HF, HCl, LiOH and metal fragments from the explosion are released.
Neighbouring Li-ion cells follow through overheating. Extinguishing agents barely reach the core of the fire; limiting damage through isolation and evacuation is the only option.
The LFIM® is built for situations where the emergency services are not yet on site. First intervention. Your own people. Your own space.
In-house emergency responders guarding storage areas, production halls and offices. Often responsible for the first minutes until the fire service arrives.
In-house emergency responders trained as first responders who carry out physical intervention work after completing the LFIS training. This is not an industrial fire brigade.
Companies with logistics operations and Li-ion storage: bike shops, e-bike retail, e-scooter fleets, battery packs and battery storage. From a handful of batteries in storage onwards this is a necessity.
People exposed to Li-ion risks through their daily work.
Companies working with cordless power tools, where large numbers of Li-ion batteries are in circulation, charged and stored.
Care institutions with wireless Li-ion powered equipment: blood pressure monitors, infusion pumps and similar devices.
The LFIM® was developed by Medisafe, specialists in safe working, workplace emergency response and fire prevention.
RIVM, the fire service, BOVAG and insurers were the catalyst: they raised the question of how to protect staff within current occupational-safety regulations. No suitable mask existed. So we built one.
LFIS is the training for deploying the LFIM® safely during Li-ion incidents: awareness, do's & don'ts and correct use under pressure. The training is delivered by an LFIM distributor, not by Medisafe itself. As a member of supervisory body NIKTA, Medisafe was involved in reviewing and approving it.
Here are the answers we get asked most. For more specific questions — call us.
During a lithium fire no longer than 15 minutes. Dispose of it afterwards as small chemical waste.
No. The LFIM® is single-use. After use it must be disposed of as small chemical waste.
Not for evacuation. For intervention you do — use only after training in firefighting and the LFIM protocol (see LFIS).
EN136 (full-face mask), EN168/EN166b (high-impact particles), EN14387+A1 (gas/smoke filters), Mod C2 EU 2016/425 (packaging 5 years maintenance-free).
A Li-ion fire releases HF, CO and metal particles that can cause severe respiratory problems, burns and lasting health damage.
12 months warranty from the purchase date. Shelf life: 5 years from production.
